Welcome from Mrs. Penny Bittner 6th Grade Science
I attended Seton Hill University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology along with my PA Teacher Certification in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. Later, I pursued a Master of Arts degree in Special Education also at Seton Hill University.
I started my teaching career in the Diocese of Greensburg teaching in parochial schools for 16 years, before I was furloughed in 2011. I taught Computer Science, Middle School, First, and Third Grades. For five years, I was a PCA in an Autism Support classroom, where the teacher allowed me to teach lessons and be her co-teacher as much as possible. I then joined AmeriCorps for 2 years through Greensburg Salm Middle School, where I created and implemented a 6th grade remedial Reading program from scratch and saw great success. Once the 2 year term was over, I started my Master degree program and was a PCA and Substitute Teacher at Clelian Heights School for Exceptional Children. Last year, I worked for Greensburg Salem as a Learning Support Teacher's Aide but was then furloughed due to COVID 19. I was hired at the beginning of this 2020 school year as a year-long substitute for 6th Grade Science here at the Derry Middle School. I am loving my job here and hope to be able to stay permanently.
