Degrees and Certifications:
This is my 18th year teaching Physical Education in the Derry Area School District, I was thrilled to be titled as" Teacher of the Year" in 2015 by PSAHPERD. My students are what keep me inspired and enthusiastic about teaching each and every year.
Physical Education provides me the opportunity to increase fitness levels, teach fair play, promote healthy life styles and integrate the development of soft skills within our students. Taking advantage of promoting these elements is important as physical educators, I believe my classroom is structured to engage and encompass those needs.
SPARK PE has had the biggest impact on my Physical Education curriculum and how I deliver the information to my students. This training was extremely beneficial, focusing on MVPA, ASAP activities and keeping all students engaged with a plethora of inclusive, FUN and active lessons.
This is the 3rd year for our SKI & Snowboard Club. We've taken 10 successful trips to Seven Springs, the opportunity to connect with kids in this setting is rewarding and FUN!
For the past 5 years, I have organized a school wide dodge-ball tournament. Students have to build a grade level team including two adults from the faculty/staff. Each team of 10 has a unique team name and creative, organized outfits. To enter the tournament the team has to donate $50 dollars to play. However, the team that raises the most money wins a great award. The money collected each year is donated to specific organizations. Past recipients have been Children’s Hospital, Westmoreland County Food Bank, DASD KIND fund (students in need in Derry), and Christmas food boxes for members in our community. The energy and enthusiasm from the adults and children combined is overwhelming which generates my excitement to continue each year.
