Wind damage to the agriculture/horticulture complex

January 25, 2023

Dear Derry Area MS/HS Parents/Guardians,

A short time ago, DASD Administration was informed of wind damage to the agriculture/horticulture complex, which resulted in the collapsing of a greenhouse panel and loose fascia.

With that information, the agriculture/horticulture building was quickly and safely evacuated.  Students and staff were relocated to the high school for classes.  Additionally, the driveway along this area is currently blocked as a safety precaution.  We will continue to work with local first responders and safety personnel to monitor the situation and address the matter when deemed safe.

School personnel and local emergency responders will assist with regular dismissal procedures in an effort to keep traffic congestion to a minimum.  Please know that all vehicle access at the rear of the middle school and high school complex must be through the Route 982 entrance.

Student announcements have already been made at the secondary buildings.  Every other dismissal route will follow normal procedures.  The safety of students, staff, and all stakeholders is always paramount when situations like these arise.  As of now, all after-school activities will proceed as normal.

Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s building office if you have any additional questions or concerns.

Sincerest Regards,
Gregory A. Ferencak
