Dear Derry Area School District Families,
Earlier today, building administration at the middle school was made aware of a concern about a middle school student possibly being in possession of a pocket knife on school grounds at the middle school. The administration quickly identified and isolated the students involved in the matter. The Derry Borough Police also assisted in the investigation.
As always, I encourage parents and guardians to take this opportunity to talk with your child about the serious consequences of inappropriate actions and behavior. I also want to sincerely thank the concern of our students and school community for reporting such information. Disciplinary measures will always be enforced through applicable board policies and procedures. Our primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff. This is something that we take very seriously. Please know that we will always communicate as quickly and safely as possible with our employees and community members without jeopardizing the integrity of a police investigation for legal matters.
Please contact your building principal if you have any specific questions or concerns about school safety procedures. Since this matter involves a student, by policy and for privacy matters, no further comment will be available. Thank you for your attention with this matter.
Sincerely,
Gregory A. Ferencak
