Mrs. Foster - Title 1 Reading Interventionist

Education
I attended the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and a Pennsylvania Teacher Certification in 2009.  I earned a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction Degree from Clarion University in 2013. I have since then completed 33.5 additional graduate-level credits.

Work Experience
For the first eight years of my professional career (2009-2017), I worked as a first grade teacher in the Derry Area School District. I was blessed with the opportunity to teach at both Loyalhanna Elementary School and New Derry Elementary School to start my career, followed by transitioning to the newly renovated Grandview Elementary School.  I then enjoyed teaching fourth grade English/Language Arts from 2017 to 2023. During the 2018-2019 school year I was self-contained, which allowed me to also teach the 4th grade Mathematics and Science curriculum.  Following the seven years teaching fourth grade, I took a year-long professional sabbatical and completed 15 additional graduate-level credits. Last year, I taught third grade mathematics and social science. Diving into the third grade math and science standards was a welcomed challenge! This current school year, I am a Title 1 Reading Interventionist. This is an incredible opportunity to work with several students in third, fourth, and fifth grade to provide specialized, targeted instruction to help struggling readers overcome specific literacy challenges. I use the 95% Phonics Program and focus on improving student reading fluency.
